Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry

About Soil Science Department

Soil science is the science dealing with soil as a natural resource on the surface of earth, including Pedology, (soil genesis, classification and mapping) and the physical, chemical, biological and fertility properties of soils and these properties in relation to their management for crop production. Soil science has six well defined disciplines such as Soil Fertility, Soil Chemistry, Soil Physics, Soil Microbiology, Soil Conservation and Soil Pedology.

The Soil Science department is involved in teaching, practical, research projects, vermicompost production and study tours. The department plays an important role in diagnosis and management of deficient nutrients, problematic soil and also involved in extension activities to create an awareness among farmers on deficiency symptoms, different manures, compost preparation, fertilizers and integrated plant nutrient management.
