About the Department of Agricultural Engineering

The Department of Agricultural Engineering is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and extension activities across diverse fields, including Soil & Water Conservation Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power, Renewable Energy and Green Technology, Protected Cultivation and Secondary Agriculture, and Food Processing.

Faculty members are highly qualified and bring extensive experience and expertise to their disciplines, ensuring a robust learning environment for B.Sc. (Hons.) agriculture students. The department focuses on developing and demonstrating innovative technologies to enhance the mechanization of agricultural production and post-harvest processes.

Key areas of work include:
• Advancing farm mechanization
• Promoting the utilization of conventional and non-conventional energy sources
• Enhancing post-harvest processing and value addition of agricultural products and byproducts
• Advancing irrigation and drainage mechanization

The department offers state-of-the-art facilities to support academic and research activities, including a food processing training center, bakery unit, renewable energy park, and computer laboratory. These resources provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and contribute to agricultural advancements.

Courses Outcome

1.In the ENGG-121 course, students learn the fundamentals of soil and water conservation, different erosion control techniques, soil and water conservation technologies, hands-on with different types of land surveys and equipment.
2.In the ENGG-232 course, students will learn about farm mechanization, IC engines, working principles of IC engines, different components of IC engines, different systems of tractors, different tillage implements, types of tillage, plant protection and harvesting equipment’s, different farm machinery concepts, engine types and their working, tillage concepts and machinery used for all farm works. The students will get in-depth knowledge about farm machinery and various farm power used for all types of agricultural works.
3.In the COMP-231 course, the students will be able to learn about the different hardware and software of computers; the students will get in-depth knowledge about computer hardware, software, and different data processing software.
4.In the ENGG-243 course, the students will get in-depth knowledge about different renewable and green energy technologies like solar energy, wind energy, biofuels, biogas, gasifiers, bio-oil, etc.
5.In the ENGG-364 course, the students will learn about the different types of greenhouses and polyhouse and their designs, covering and construction materials used in greenhouses & polyhouses, cooling systems used in greenhouses, engineering properties of food grains, moisture content determination of food samples, different types of dryers and material handling systems, different post-harvest and processing technologies.
6.In the RAWE program, students will be able to collect data on the current status of food processing and value addition in villages and vicinities. Also, they will be able to train farmers on different food products making and storage of agro produce. Students will be able to catch different ITK adopted by farmers in villages. Through the RAWE program, students will be able to train farmers on various food processing opportunities.
7.In the Food Processing Module offered by our department, students can be trained to run various food processing enterprises like bakery units, fruit and vegetable processing, milk processing, and mushroom processing. Also, students will be trained for existing rules required to run food businesses like FSSAI, BRC, AGMARK, HACCP, ISO-22000, etc.

1. The department has organized 5-dayworkshop cum training program on “Drone Technology & Its Applications in Agriculture” for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture student in association with Goa Engineering College, Farma Gudi, Ponda
2. Successfully organized hands-on training on the preparation of pickles for final year B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students
3. Training and exposure visit to the coir processing unit at Kudal and Goa
