Department of Agricultural Economics & Statistics

About Agricultural Economics & Statistics

Agricultural Economics and Statistics is a multidisciplinary field that merges the principles of economics, agriculture, and statistical analysis to address the complex challenges facing the agricultural sector. It plays a crucial role in shaping policies, improving productivity, and enhancing sustainability in farming systems, rural development, and food production.

Agricultural Statistics, on the other hand, provides the quantitative tools needed to collect, analyse, and interpret data related to agriculture. This includes everything from crop yields and livestock production to prices, trade flows, and environmental factors. Through advanced statistical methods, agricultural statisticians help to generate reliable data that supports decision-making, planning, and forecasting in agriculture.

Together, these fields provide essential insights that drive agricultural innovation, support rural economies, and contribute to global food security. By leveraging both economic theory and data-driven analysis can address key challenges such as climate change, food shortages, and evolving global markets.
